Every organizational, academic, curricular, technological and financial decision is made with the needs of the student being paramount in importance.
Each assigned teacher has been carefully chosen for each student to meet his or her academic needs. All are skilled at modifying curriculum in coordination with the desires of each family to meet the California graduation requirements, in a way that honors to values of the family. By employing the Personalized Learning model of education, students feel empowered to achieve their goals.

SSHS students all work with fully credentialed teachers and have many ways in which they can learn. Parents and students typically meet with their teacher, who is called a facilitator, every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the needs of each student. At that meeting, a personalized learning plan is designed, with everyone at the meeting giving input. As the needs of the student change, the plan changes.
In addition to traditional homeschooling, student may choose to participate in on-site classes in math, science, technology, and art as a complement to the learning program of each. As well students may take some of their classes through Shasta College, on a traditional school campus, or on-line.
SSHS also provides Special Education support with fully qualified teachers directing services to meet the student’s needs.
Shasta Secondary Home School has several on-site classrooms with interactive whiteboards, 2 computer labs with state-of-the-art technology, and a library for student use. The school also has an in-house library and space for study groups. A student organization, the Leos Club, meets regularly on-campus, providing social and leadership opportunities to students. SSHS also provides student accounts for each student to support academic needs like music lessons with private tutors, one-on-one math tutoring, and Shasta College tuition.
Charter schools, like all California public schools are funded by your tax dollars at work. It is the goal of everyone at Shasta Secondary Home School to put the investment of the people of California to a good purpose, the purpose of educating the young to take their place in society as responsible, resilient, and ethical adults that have a clear vision for their lives. SSHS operates with the highest of ethical standards regarding budgetary and spending practices under the oversight of the Shasta Union High School District because it is our responsibility to make good use of the funds entrusted to us by the citizens of the nation.
Text for History: “Shasta Secondary Home School was founded in 1999 in partnership with Shasta Union High School District by founder Lynn Peebles. As a free public charter school, SSHS serves students in Shasta County and its surrounding counties, using the Personalized Learning model of education, in which each family chooses the method by which each student is educated. When the school began, it consisted of Mr. Peebles and 26 students and has grown to consist of over 20 staff members and serve in excess of 300 students per year. Since the school’s founding, SSHS has grown to serve over 300 students per year in grades 6-12. SSHS is fully WASC Accredited and is a California Charter School Association Certified school.
